  • 9 lasagna noodles

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the Béchamel sauce:

  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk
  • Nutmeg to taste
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pasta:
    • Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside with a drizzle of olive oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Meat Sauce:
    • Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add ground beef, onion, and garlic, and cook until browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, and oregano. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Prepare the Béchamel Sauce:

  4. Assemble the Lasagna:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce. Top with a layer of noodles, followed by ricotta cheese, mozzarella, béchamel sauce, and Parmesan. Repeat layers and finish with a generous layer of cheese.
  5. Bake:
    • Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until cheese is bubbly and golden.
