Tarte Tatin is a delightful French upside-down pastry in which the apples are caramelized in butter and sugar before the tart is baked. This dessert is named after the Tatin sisters who invented it and has become a sweet emblem of French culinary ingenuity.

Ingredients:

Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a cast-iron or ovenproof skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Sprinkle sugar evenly on top and cook until the mixture turns a light caramel color.
- Arrange apple halves round side down in the skillet. Cook over low heat for about 20 minutes.
- Place the puff pastry over the apples, tucking the edges down around the apples.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes until the pastry is golden and apples are tender.
- Remove from oven, let cool for a few minutes, then invert onto a serving dish.
- Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve warm.
